Antonio Ligabue’s exhibition at the Eremitani

Antonio Ligabue

The man, the painter

The exhibition

From saturday 22 September to sunday 17 February 2019 in the prestigious venue of the Musei Civici agli Eremitani, for the firts time in Padua a monografic exhibition on Antonio Ligabue (Zurich 1899 – Gualtieri 1965), promoted by the Municipality’s Department of Culture of Padua, is on display.

The exhibition is curated by Francesca Villanti and Francesco Negri, with the general organization of C.O.R. Create Organize Realize, in collaboration with the Antonio Ligabue Museum Foundation and the Municipality of Gualtieri (RE).

You can visit more than seventy paintings, ten works on paper and seven sculptures; the exhibition will offer a historical and critical interpretation of the work of the Italian-Swiss artist, still today one of the most interesting personalities of 20th-century art.
The exhibition path is divided by main themes within which the creative universe of Ligabue develops: the relationship with the self-portrait, the wild and domestic animals, the work of the fields.
For the first time, about forty original documents dedicated to the biographical story of Antonio Ligabue are also visible to the public.
The exhibition is accompanied by a Skira catalog with texts by Sergio Negri, Giuseppe Amadei and Massimo Scanarini.
