The Venice Film Festival is one of the most eagerly awaited events of the year for film and art enthusiasts, but not only for them. It is the oldest film festival in the world, established in 1932 and officially recognized by the FIAPF. The exhibition is directed by Alberto Barbera and takes place from the 30th of August to the 9th of September 2023 at the Venice Lido: perfect moment to get a little bit of thermal relax and wellness.
The Venice Film Festival is also an opportunity to discover the beauty of the Veneto region. Among them, a few kilometers from the Lido, in the province of Padova, there are the “Thermæ of Venice”, famous for their water rich in mineral salts and for their treatments. Abano Terme is easily accessible and it is the ideal destination for those who want to combine the pleasure of cinema with that of relaxation. Guess what! This is exactly where you will find the Hotel AbanoRitz.
“At the moment when we are about to celebrate the 80th edition of the Venice Film Festival, we hope that the program will not only reflect the vitality of contemporary cinema, but will also contribute to nurturing confidence in a future that contemplates bold challenges, but also opportunities and new frontiers”.
Alberto Barbera
Freedom and dialogue in a shaky future
The Venice Film Festival as usual proposes the dissemination of international cinema in all its forms in a spirit of freedom and dialogue, but this year brings with it an air of questioning regarding the historical moment in which we find ourselves. Uncertainty, unrest and difficulties have unfortunately once again touched the film industry after the great post-pandemic crisis, which has led to a sharp drop in cinema attendance, except for a very few cases. Auteur and independent films suffer most from the historical situation that threatens their very survival. Not least among the issues of concern is the introduction of Artificial Intelligence in the creative and film industry.
A program to leave us breathless!
21 unreleased feature films are in competition for this 80th edition of the Venice International Film Festival. There will also be interesting out-of-competition fictions and non-fictions, short films and series.
In the Horizons section, there will be a selection of films representative of worldwide trends among debutants and emerging authors.
A section is dedicated to the valorization of restoration operations of classic films to contribute to a better knowledge of the history of cinema, with a pre-opening tribute to Gina Lollobrigida scheduled for 29 August.
Thermæ & Cinema
