“All about women”. We could not fail to support an event dedicated to a woman with the caliber of Eve Arnold, an exclusive project for the Museo Villa Bassi Rathgeb in Abano Terme. The ladies’ world portrayed by the first woman photojournalist of Magnum Agency, one of the biggest photographers of the XX century, known to be curious and direct, but meanwhile reassuring. This project is focused on the relationship that Eve Arnold was able to create with the women in front of her lens, a work which let shine through force and sensibility by the artist. Among the most famous we have Marilyn Monroe, with who the photographer had a special friendship.
Eve Arnold born as Eve Cohen on the 21st of April 1912 in the United States. She had her first camera at the age of 34 and she looked for her first subjects in Harlem, center of the Afro-American culture in Manhattan. People saw immediately her talent in capturing emotions and not only simple faces. Well known is the portrait made to Malcom X in this context. In 1951 she joined the Magnum Agency, founded in 1947 by Robert Capa: she is the first woman undertaking this photojournalistic path.
“I think that if I will ever be satisfied, I will have to stop. It’s the frustration which pushes me”. So Eve Arnold said, letting think about the importance of the self-critique for a photographer who wants to grow up and get better.
The exhibition “All about women” will open the doors at the Museo Villa Bassi Rathgeb in Abano Terme on the 17th of May and it will last till the 8th of December.
