The Ageing Psychology Service of the University of Padua has been committed since many years to promoting and supporting initiatives aimed in improving the quality of life of the adult-elderly person.
Ageing is, even today, often represented as a phase of life characterized by an inevitable physical and mental decline. This negative (and erroneous) vision, conveyed also by society and mass media, characterizes the experience with which the adult-elderly person her-/himself faces, with concern and discouragement, the changes she/her experiences in everyday life. The Service of Dr Erika Borella is at the forefront to give back to the “advancing” of age the value it deserves and to promote a correct and positive view of aging: ageing is a process that characterizes the entire life of the person and it must be built daily, (re)-discovering every day its resources and how much is not only possible, but also of fundamental importance to get involved and engage in activities aimed at enhancing one’s physical, mental and social well-being.
With these assumptions, and in line with the mission of the Senior Living Resort project promoted by the AbanoRitz Hotel, the professionals of the Aging Psychology Service would like to be themselves available to meet the needs of the adult-elderly person also from the psychological point of view, in order to take care of their own “mind” (of their own mental abilities) and their own psychological well-being. At a difficult time like the one we are experiencing, proposing a safe space, like the AbanoRitz, which enhances the over 50 person and which allows to meet experienced professionals, can really make a difference, according to Dr Borella. For this reason, she proposes to integrate in our project a check-up aimed at monitoring the functioning of mental abilities (such as memory and attention) and the psychological well-being. The check-up will allow to return, to each guest, a comprehensive profile of their mental and psychological functioning, on the basis of which they may be recommended and proposed personalized enhancement paths.
“We think that partnerships such as this one, which may take the form of an agreement with our Service, are truly precious, since they enable us to respond to tangible needs and, at the same time, to promote in the adult-elderly person an increasing awareness of the importance of taking an active role in the construction of its own ageing process.“
