“Ginger is delicate and pungent, and pushes you to look into its eyes.”
from the movie A Touch of Spice
Ginger, an Asian root with an unmistakable aroma and scent. It has become a kind of fashion: ginger herbal tea, ginger drink, ginger infusion, ginger cocktail… It can be used in many dishes and in many different ways.
For over 2,500 years, it has been a cornerstone of oriental medicine for strengthening the immune system, but also against covid19. It is also known to be beneficial in alleviating gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal bloating and nausea (even during pregnancy, without overdoing it). Immunostimulant, natural antiemetic, it combats diabetes and cholesterol and is also useful against arthrosis and menstrual pain.
“We are what we eat“, as the German philosopher Ludwig Feuerbach stated in the 19th century, and both diet and lifestyle are therefore very important in preventing and defending against attacks from viruses and bacteria.
Ginger can be used in a variety of ways: in salads, with vegetables, rice or fish, in drinks and in desserts. It can be used fresh, powdered or dehydrated and is now also sold as a supplement in capsules.
At AbanoRitz we have Ginger Beer, a soft drink that our barman uses for both alcoholic and non-alcoholic cocktails.
But what about candied ginger candies? Here how our cooking wizards do it:
Boil a saucepan of water with 300g of sliced ginger for about half an hour. Then drain the mixture and fry it in a pan with 300 g of sugar for about 20 minutes, until the sugar has been completely absorbed. Cool on a sheet of baking paper and that’s it.
In this way, ginger retains all its benefits, so it calms nausea, helps digestion and circulation, and is excellent against seasickness and seasonal ailments such as coughs and sore throats. It is a natural calming agent with a balsamic and anti-inflammatory action.
Ginger is used in various versions of the AbanoRitz menu. Just to give you a few examples to whet your appetite:
- Black rice with scampi and ginger
- Swordfish with honey and ginger
- Scallops au gratin with ginger
- Chicken strips with ginger and almonds
- Rustic pie with radicchio and ginger
Is there anything else to add? Our kitchen and all our staff are waiting for you for a holiday of Relaxation and Well-Being.
