A dive into the history of photography, just steps from the Abano Ritz!

Just a little over fifteen minutes from our hotel, the Villa Bassi Rathgeb Museum will host, starting May 16, the unmissable exhibition “Photography Was in the Air”, dedicated to Alfred Eisenstaedt, one of the fathers of modern photojournalism and a historic contributor to Life magazine. The exhibition features around 80 photographs. Eisenstaedt was forced to leave Europe in 1935 due to antisemitism and moved to New York, where he documented American society through his work. His style is marked by documentary rigor and poetic sensitivity.

Does the famous photograph of the sailor kissing the nurse in Times Square to celebrate the end of World War II ring a bell? The author is him!

In this extraordinary exhibition (a project spread across two venues, between Abano Terme and the Naval History Museum of Venice), you will be able to admire:

  • Photographs of vibrant interwar Europe
  • Breathtaking photo reports from every corner of the world, from Ethiopia to Japan
  • Iconic portraits of historical figures such as Albert Einstein, Marilyn Monroe, and Sophia Loren

The exceptional setting for this exhibition is the splendid Villa Bassi Rathgeb, a 16th-century residence that enchants visitors with its fresco cycles and elegant halls, just a 5-minute walk (or a very short bike ride on our bicycles) from the Abano Ritz Hotel.

The choice of Alfred Eisenstaedt is no coincidence: Villa Bassi further strengthens its role as a prestigious hub for fine art photography, continuing its successful tradition of hosting great masters of the lens—an appointment that our local audience has come to cherish.

We look forward to welcoming you at the AbanoRitz! Book your stay and feel free to ask the reception for any information.
