Every September (especially on weekends), the fortified village of Monselice, at the foot of the Euganean Hills, travels back in time to relive its most intense and fascinating era: the 13th century.
A period marked by the struggles between Emperor Frederick II and the free Communes, which saw leaders such as Ezzelino III da Romano leave their mark on history.
The evocative setting of the Colle della Rocca, with its ancient walls and winding alleys climbing to the top, becomes the stage for an event that combines historical accuracy with grand spectacle.
The heart of the festival is the historical parade, which fills the streets with period costumes and chivalric atmospheres, accompanied by the medieval market where artisans and performers bring back to life crafts and flavors of the past. To complete the experience, there are:
-
Living chess matches (September 16th), a unique performance that turns strategy into theatre;
-
Drummers’ challenges (September 18th), echoing like a warrior’s call;
-
Skill competitions (September 13th and 21st) inspired by medieval traditions, from archery to relay races, and strength trials with millstones and quintana jousts;
-
Tastings and performances (September 12th and 14th), making the festival a complete journey through history, culture, and conviviality.
Taking part in this event means experiencing the authenticity of a Venetian village just 19 km from the AbanoRitz, and one of the medieval gems of our Euganean Hills, along with Este, Monselice, Arquà Petrarca, and more.
