130 works by 47 artists from the major art movements that defined the first half of the 20th century will be on display at Palazzo Zabarella from October 5, 2024, to January 12, 2025, in Padua, just 12 km from the AbanoRitz.
From Matisse and Picasso to Chagall, Miró, and Modigliani, and continuing with Signac, Bonnard, Vuillard, Rouault, Delaunay, Arp, Balthus, Cocteau, and many others, the extraordinary selection of works presented at Palazzo Zabarella in the exhibition “Matisse, Picasso, Modigliani, Miró. Masterpieces of Drawing from the Musée de Grenoble” offers a unique opportunity to explore the various techniques and different languages that spanned much of the last century. From pencil to charcoal, tempera to watercolor, from figuration to abstraction, the leading figures of the avant-garde experimented on paper with compositions, forms, figures, and color combinations. The great artists of the post-impressionist avant-gardes, which emerged before and after the war, explored different mediums and, above all, processes. By combining one technique with another, they achieved effects that were previously unimaginable: collage and decoupage were used, as well as materials such as metals, gold leaf, and fabrics, which introduced drawing into new, unprecedented dimensions.
Palazzo Zabarella continues its international dialogue with renowned global museum institutions, now partnering with the prestigious Musée de Grenoble, one of the most important in Europe. In this way, Palazzo Zabarella continues to explore the pathways of art between the 19th and 20th centuries, from Impressionism to the historical avant-garde movements, once again examined from that privileged vantage point that Paris represented.
