Fifty years and still going strong!

2017 is an important year for Abano Ritz Hotel, one we cannot ignore. Abano Ritz turns 50 this year. Four generations of exceptional women have run a virtual relay over these years, passing on the baton of hospitality.

It was immediately clear that it was not going to be the usual hotel when it opened in 1967! The difference was all the detail! For instance, energy saving was practically unknown in those years, but it was already a must-have at the Abano Ritz Hotel!

Light in a key

Look closely at your gorgeous and stylish room key when Reception hands it to you. It is not only a key, but also a tool of utter genius! It opens your door of course, but when you hang it on the hook on your left, it powers on your whole room! Easy in the age of domotics, we might think. Yet, if you imagine that this device has been saving energy since as far back as 1967, it is immediately clear that the Abano Ritz Hotel was already a forerunner in the field.

Sounds of hugs

Fifty years of activity mean fifty years of guests from the four corners of the world, fifty years of relationships, and fifty years of people. We would like to thank and hug every single one of you, but this is unfortunately not possible. For this reason, we have organized a virtual hug made of music at the Abano Ritz headquarters!

Get your tuxedos and evening dresses ready, because Ida and Terry Poletto are paying a tribute to their guests with great concerts  in the sumptuous hall of mirrors every last Friday of the month from January to December. We were talking about details, weren’t we?! Exactly: the musical programme will honour the composers of all the nationalities of the Abano Ritz guests.

Looks matter!

Knowing the history of Abano Ritz is fundamental to a thorough understanding of all the love and dedication that has made this place unique. Therefore, to share this family fairy tale, a commemorative exhibition on the innovative architecture of the hotel and its time together with other side events, will accompany the passing of time over this important year.  Well, we have understood that a stay at the Abano Ritz will be a magnificently relaxing and never-ending experience in 2017.

My B mood and our video-crew were at the Abano Ritz to shoot the commemorative video of its “first fifty years”. We immediately liked the challenge of telling such an important story!  We got down to working and, with a swirling brainstorm of distilled excellences, we extracted that unique and distinctive mood that embodies the Abano Ritz.

No stress, pleaseeee

In addition, in-between sips of herbal teas, we entrusted our muscle stresses to the wonderful spa massages and the mud therapy that restored our fitness and energy. They wrapped us in hemp and cotton cloths, nowadays extremely rare, that allow the precious elements in the mud to penetrate deeply. We rehydrated our bodies with delicious herbal teas and relaxed every single muscle in warm thermal baths.

Water-Wonderland

We had fun in the water, moving from one swimming pool to the next. In awe, we admired the magnificent ceiling that makes the indoor pool unique, inspired by the works of the architect Nervi. As evening set in, it was magic to enjoy the romantic outdoor pool enveloped by fumes and steam under a starry sky.  The two pools are semi-Olympic and look out onto an immense private park that is home to a happy rabbit colony. Pure poetry, reminding us of “Alice in Wonderland”.

Once upon a time…

The fairy tale continues with a different author yet encapsulating the same mood. New and stunning modern suites welcomed us. Some draw inspiration from “The ugly duckling” tale with themes and pale colours that tell the story of the evolution of the little duckling, which we loved as children. He, the feathery being taking revenge, is also the undisputed protagonist of the new restaurant – the smaller of the two Abano Ritz restaurants- that is called after the fairy tale! And, talking about happy endings, we did not gain even one single gram! And why? Because well-being is synonymous with pleasing at the Abano Ritz!

Wanting to try everything, absolutely everything, we opposed no resistance to the rhythm and colours of the dishes, which impeccable white gloves held out courteously. After all, we were at the White Gloves Restaurant, the larger of the two restaurants at Abano Ritz. It was here we learned, without our taste buds complaining, that the menu, including desserts – and what desserts – may be designed in a healthy way, with care for food and calorie combinations, following the paces and the products of seasons. Here health and well-being are at the heart of all policies.

We are not able, however, to snag the recipes, which are numerous and bountiful, that we could rewrite the Larousse dictionary with our eyes closed! Nevertheless, this gives us an excuse to return periodically, to sample that new dish, made in that way, with that particular ingredient, that gives us our needed dose of well-being … And what are you waiting for? Pack your bags; well-being, fables and courtesy are the Abano Ritz!
