A castle between history and mystery
The Catajo Castle was built in the 16th century in full Renaissance style by the Obizzi family, who further expanded it in the following century. In the 18th century it was transformed into a ducal palace by the Habsburg-Este family of Modena and then it became the holiday residence of the Habsburgs, emperors of Austria. After the First World War, the Catajo returned to the Italian ownership as reparation for the war damages, but it was auctioned off following the 1929 crisis. The castle is still privately owned today.
The castle has hosted several epoch-making events and prominent personalities such as the king Charles III, the emperor Napoleon, the musician Franz Liszt, the poet Torquato Tasso and many others.
Summer at the Catajo Castle
This summer, the Catajo Castle comes alive with a series of events that will allow visitors to visit and experience the castle as never before, discovering its history through extraordinary openings and our territory through tastings and themed evenings. The various events organized include evenings with an astronomer to discover the stars, themed treasure hunts and aperitifs to taste the territory. With Catajo Mai Visto you enter in the real court life, listening to tales and anecdotes about the lives of the nobles who inhabited the castle or were simply passing through. Another unmissable event is the final evening: a 19th century ball is organized on the castle terrace on the 22nd of September.
