In January, various ensembles will perform pieces by:
- Fernando Carulli (1770–1841): an Italian guitarist and composer known for elevating the guitar to a concert instrument.
- Francesco Cilea (1866–1950): an Italian opera composer.
- Dmitri Shostakovich (1906–1975): one of the greatest Russian composers of the 20th century, known for his symphonies and quartets, who used music to express his personal and political challenges.
Though from different periods and styles, all these composers found ways to express the spirit of their times through their primary instruments: guitar, voice, and orchestra.
In February, the Nadrzycki-Zathey duo will perform works by:
- Henryk Wieniawski and George Enescu, renowned violinists from the early 20th century.
- Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873–1943): a Russian pianist and composer, master of late Romanticism, famous for his piano concertos and unforgettable melodies.
What unites these three is their love for the solo instrument (violin or piano) as a means of expressing technical virtuosity that never loses sight of melodic warmth.
In March, the program will feature music by:
- Johann Sebastian Bach, the great Baroque giant.
- Bohuslav Martinů (1890–1959): a 20th-century Czech composer known for his neoclassical style and creative use of rhythm and harmony.
- Jacques Ibert (1890–1962): a French composer whose works combine lightness and elegance.
These three composers, in different ways, reflect a deep awareness of the past and an absolute drive for innovation.
