The ancient paths of faith

The Jubilee is a religious event established in 1300 by Pope Boniface VIII. It is celebrated every 25 years. The central symbol of the Jubilee is the opening of the Holy Door. From a historical perspective, the Jubilee is accompanied by pilgrimages to holy sites and is a time dedicated to prayer, penance, spiritual reconciliation, and the possibility of obtaining indulgences. Over time, the Jubilee has also taken on a cultural and tourist dimension, attracting millions of faithful from all over the world.

In our region, the Jubilee offers the opportunity to rediscover centuries-old places of spirituality; while the Euganean Hills, with their atmosphere of peace and nature, combine faith and contemplation of the beauty of creation, enriching the meaning of the Jubilee through the connection between faith, culture, and the land.
The area surrounding AbanoRitz offers many diverse itineraries that explore the history, culture, tradition, and faith of Veneto and the Upper Padua region.

The AbanoRitz is the ideal starting point to discover the fascinating tour of the sacred places of the Euganean Hills and to rediscover oneself amidst the meditative landscapes of the ancient paths of faith.
Far from crowded destinations and overly known and frequented spots, we recommend a vacation for the mind and soul, as well as for the body: “The Ancient Paths of Faith,” a thematic route that spans the province of Padua within a 15 km radius. In addition to the Basilica of Saint Anthony, which is visited every year by millions of pilgrims, there are many other enchanting places rich in spirituality.

Among the places closest to AbanoRitz(5 km), we suggest the Abbey of Praglia: the most important and beloved place of spirituality in the Euganean Hills area. It is a very ancient Benedictine monastery founded in the 11th century and later reconstructed between the 15th and 16th centuries.
Just ten minutes from Praglia, you can visit the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Health, located in the hamlet of Monteortone on the Euganean Hills. It is a charming site of Marian devotion that has been active for over five centuries. According to tradition, a wounded knight went to pray in the grove where the water of a thermal spring flowed. After bathing, he was healed and found a painted panel depicting the Virgin. Our Lady of Monteortone is also credited with ending the plague that struck Padua in the 15th century.

Moving to the southwestern part of the province, we find one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, Montagnana. The Cathedral of Montagnana is a wonderful urban gem, located within the ancient walled city. Built in 1431 in Venetian Gothic style, the church houses precious works of art by Veronese and Giorgione.
But the most beautiful village is undoubtedly Arquà Petrarca, while one of the most charming hermitages is that of the Camaldolese monks, founded in 1530 on Mount Rua, and the one of St. Daniel for the nuns.
Finally, the Sanctuary of Mount Madonna has been, since the 14th century, a place of retreat and absolute spiritual seeking. This, like other sacred places, is also fascinating due to the natural and scenic context that defines it within the Euganean Hills Regional Park.
