Friday March 31st, at 18:30, at the AbanoRITZ hotel opens the exhibition “Questo albergo è una casa” (This hotel is home), curated by Sara Pedron and Marco Stecca. The exhibition is one of the initiatives for the 50 years of the hotel’s activity, and aims to celebrate its evolution by telling, in parallel, the architectural evolution of the building and its generational history through the family ties that animated it.
Set up in the ground floor TV room, it will be open for a whole year, until March 2018. The opening, scheduled for 18:30, will end with an happy hour for all participants; for those who want to stay a little longer, at 21:15 there will be the chance to attend for free at the concert of pianist Octavian Corneliu Arion, “Russian atmospheres“. The exhibition and concerts aim to become cultural opportunities of interest for a wide and transversal audience; meaning, they want to be a chance for the hotel to open up to the citizenship and surrounding territory, to which the hotel is indissolubly bound.
The exhibition
“Questo albergo è una casa” (This hotel is home) intends to narrate the 50 years of the AbanoRITZ hotel – from 1967 to today – through a story recalled investigating old photographs and pages of notes, studying drawings and architectural projects, listening to solid affectionate tales. Getting in depth into a dimension such as the one of the AbanoRITZ hotel and letting yourself be involved by its dynamics inevitably leads to reflect not only on the “hotel, but on the values that have guided its management since its very origin.
A double parallel narration deploys like this: one about the AbanoRITZ hotel, which arises from projects, prospects and sections, drafts and sketches, original drawings and perspectives taken back to light as from 1965, an heterogeneous evolving stratification that reveals attention and care for the details, and changes throughout time; the other one – in the paint gallery – frames the allegories of the AbanoRITZ values: familiarity, comfort and welcoming have been surfacing from the black and white photographs of the early nineteen sixties, for 50 years, up to today.
The story opens a wider crosswise reflection on the AbanoRITZ hotel and reaches the concepts of place and non-place, of housing, of relations between people and the space; we are talking about “home”, as the place of belonging and care.
Over the coming months, there will be some moments of deepening and discussion on the subjects chosen by the curators and the management, from the point of view of different disciplines in a virtuous confrontation that will bring together different perspectives on the same topic, also by resuming the past-present dichotomy.
The concert
The “Russian atmospheres” concert is dedicated to the immortal piano pages of the great Russian school, which will be traced through the music of Skrjabin, Prokof’ev and Rachmaninov performed by pianist Octavian Corneliu Arion. The concert will be enriched by a second piano, played by Cristina Iorillo, for a “Russian medley” of great effect. For the exceptional presence of two pianos, the concert will be held in the lobby and not in the traditional Mirror Room.
It is the third annual event of the festival “The Colors of Music in the World“, realized in collaboration with the KlyoMusic Association. Every last Friday of the month, the splendid Mirror Room resounds with music from different parts of the world, an ideal tribute to all the international guests who, over 50 years, have enriched the story of the AbanoRITZ. Still to this day, the universal language of music brings together the hotel guests and the audience in a moving encounter without boundries.
