Just 10 km from AbanoRitz, on the Battaglia Canal in Battaglia Terme, until 14 January 2019, you can visit the Nativity scene on the Water set up as tradition by the volunteers of the Presepisti Group.
The legend, handed down by the boatmen, tells of a woman who long ago washed her baby’s clothes in the canal waters, near the Catajo Castle: it was the Virgin Mary. In the same place, the next day, a statue of the Virgin Mary was found that was brought to the San Giorgio Carrara church, but the following morning that effige had disappeared from the church and was found along the canal in the same place where it had appeared. That statue became the protector of the boatmen and in its honor 25 years ago decided to build the nativity scene.
The representation is made by the skilled hands of the Group led by Lucia Boaretto, who this year has reproduced the Nativity on the deck of a burcio and on the raft moored on the canal, with other moving characters.
The nativity scene has committed the volunteers for three months managing to bring, year after year, ever more beautiful news that are a source of attraction in the area.
The blessing ceremony
On the day of the eve, Monday, December 24 at 6.00 pm, the Blessing of the Nativity scene will take place: Baby Jesus, on board the illuminated boats of the Rowing Club, will be placed in the manger next to Mary and Joseph.
The evocative ceremony will take place among the torches, the lights, the melodious sounds and songs of the Christmas tradition.
The songs are organized by the choirs: “Cantate Domino” and “Coro dei Barcari”.
