Why Ferragosto?

It was a period of rest and celebration, established in 18 A.C. from the first Roman emperor Octavianus Augustus to celebrate the end of agricultural work.

The name of the feast of Ferragosto derives from the latin feriae Augusti (rest of Augustus), from which the month of August takes its name.

As a pagan celebration day, the first of August was celebrated even though the time spent resting much longer…later, around the seventh century, the recurrence was incorporated by the Catholic Church that began to celebrate the Assumption of Mary on August 15th.

But why do the trips out in the mid-August period?.. From the second half of the twenties, Fascism organized the “Popular trains of Ferragosto“, convoys at bargain prices that brought Italians around the Belpaese. So began the visit to new places and until then unknown at lower prices than normal!..

So what to say…and that the tradition continues!

We are waiting for you! 😉
