Almond’s Day at Arquà Petrarca

On Sunday, March 19, the first edition of the Almond’s Day will be held at Arquà Petrarca. From 11:00 am until the evening, Piazza Petrarca will be animated by a local produce market; during the day several meetings and concerts will take place and in the afternoon you will be able to take part in an easy guided walk through the almond trees. Throughout the day, some restaurants in the village will serve almond-based dishes.

In the southern areas of the Euganean Hills, the almond is a stinging tree that is noticed only at the time of flowering when, with spots of white or rosy color, stands out in the landscape still in its winter robe. It is at this particular moment when you anxiously wait for spring to awaken nature, that almond tree is a characteristic feature of the Hills. It is from these reflections that the “Confraternita dea Britoea” conceived the first edition of the Almond Day. A celebration with the aim of enhancing this fruit and offering to the city of Arquà Petrarca a spring party.

In case of bad weather, the event will be held on Sunday 26 March.

The program

Meeting – The almond in the imagination and economy of the Park of the Euganean Hills

Foresteria Callegari, 11:00 am

The spread of the almond tree in the hills is clear in the end of winter with its delicate flowering, witnessing its past importance since almonds had high value for the scarce economy of the local population. Today it seems to be only a landscaping value, but on the wave of sustainable and organic agriculture it can go through its economic revival in the multi-form range of typical Park products.

By the prof. Claudio Giulivo, ordinary professor of Arboreal and Viticulture Cultures at the University of Padua, almond and olive cultivation enthusiast.
